Intoduction

This year at Sargent Park School, I have learned new things and have reviewed familiar things from the previous school year. I think I am good at making EXPLORE responses in English Language Arts, because I understand what is needed to make a successful response, and most of the time I use these things. One thing about EXPLORE responses I do good at, is applying SEX, which is stating an idea and backing it up with an explanation and examples. I also think that I do well in creating definition cards in Social Studies, because I try being creative by using different mediums and appyling aspects of the card that no one would expect. Another thing, is that I put a lot of effort and time making a card. For example, I looked up videos and googled ways to make a card creative. I did this because I wanted to create my Inanna card for Social Studies, unique and different. I used paper and different tools to create the Inanna card, and slept at about 12 00 am that day just to complete it. I was fairly proud of the mark I got, and felt satisfied looking at it. This year I have had things which I thought I did well at, and things which I thought I could've improved at. I think that I could've improved at Math. One thing about Math I struggled with, was understanding various concepts in a certain amount of time. For example, I would learn something and think of it for the whole class, when I should've been listening and trying to understand the other things I was being taught. This made me need to borrow my other classmates' notes after the Math period, so I had to learn the other things taught independently. My goals for the rest of this school year, are to try focusing more on everything being taught, and not worrying about just one thing for the whole period. My other goal is to try and limit my understanding of something being taught, to a certain time, so I don't have to borrow classmates' notes and analyze it independently.

Term 1 Reflection
In the beginning of the first term, my marks for quizzes wasn’t that good. I also didn’t enjoy the unit that we did, which was ratios, rates, and proportional reasoning. It was confusing at first, but after awhile I started understanding what to do. After I started understanding this unit, I started doing and better in quizzes. But my favourite unit was the Pythagorean unit. Last year I did well in equations formulas of circles, most likely because it was easy for me and I enjoyed it. What I learned from Mr. Isfeld, really helped me with the formulas of the Pythagorean Relationship. I enjoyed the Pythagorean unit, because it was very familiar to me, and was pretty simple. Similar to last year, we contributed in a “math blog”. I did about three posts last term, and was fairly proud of them. Here is one post I did for the first term. I was pretty proud of this because it looked very neat and organized. I also liked adding the videos for entertainment.

Term 2 Reflection
I enjoyed the second term, because most of the units we did was very simple and easy for me. Although I didn’t do that well in quizzes/tests, volume and surface area was fun. It was easier for me to solve these kind of problems, because all I had to do was follow the formulas. These types of problems, were like an incomplete puzzle, where you knew what to do to complete them, and you would have to find each value of the formula, to subsitute them in. However, percents were a bit confusing for me. Other than the hundred grids, I did well. My only trouble with the hundred grids, were that if you needed to represent a number such as 0.06 percent, would you have to draw a “zoomed” version of a square, which was out of 100 squares? This confused me because there seemed like a much more simple way to represent that, without finding an equivalent fraction. Overall, I enjoyed the units we did this term, more than the units we did last term

Integers

For the test on integers I got question 14 wrong, because I multiplied instead of dividing. The answer was -17 but I got 28 because I multiplied.

Fractions
This is the video I made for extra marks on the fractions unit.

For this video, I converted 11 in a much more complicated way. I could've just converted it into 11 over 1 (11/1), but it would've been converted into 22 over 2 (22/2) anyways, since the common denominator was needed.

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION
TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA
Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject: English Language Arts - Thank You Ma'am IllustrationTASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?I was required to draw an important scene or perspective of a character in the short story.INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are a couple reasons why I'm completing this drawing assignment. First, it is to show my visualization of what's happening in the story, which shows my understanding. Another reason is to also show my understanding on what's happening, but by drawing an important scene as if I was one of the characters. This may help me to comprehend the character's perspective referring to the situation that's happening.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?- draw in a perspective of a character or a scene showing the situation that's happening- scene has to be important in the reading
NEXT STEPS:
I can now draw in a perspective of a character or a scene in the story showing our understanding of what's happening.
I can now use my illustration to explain to other people what happened in the story.
I can now use the illustration to help other people currently reading the story, to have a mental picture of what's happening.
I can now use this picture I drew, as a template for making another visualization when reading a different story.

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTIONTASK/INTENT/CRITERIA
Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:
Subject: English Language Arts - Sky Lake EXPLORE Response TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?I was required to create an EXPLORE response outlining a story. I needed to include a paragraph for each letter of EXPLORE (EX: examples, P: purpose, L: key lines, O; organizational features, R: relate, E: evaluate). I also had to follow SEX. SEX is statements, explanation, and example. This means that when you have a statement, you must back it up with explanations and examples from the text and real life. But before writing these paragraphs, I had to organize my ideas for each letter in a chart. INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?I am completing this assignment to practice the EXPLORE organizer to become a better writer by sorting out my ideas on the book I'm reading.CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?- statements must be specific- have explanations for what you're stating- use examples to help explain statements- have ideas sorted out on the EXPLORE chart organizer- have each paragraph written down- EX paragraph and summary must be together, as one paragraphNEXT STEPS:I can now use this response as a template to create other EXPLORE responses.
I can now explain my statements with examples from the text and real life.
I can now help other students and give criteria to them for making an EXPLORE response.
I can now use SEX to have a successful EXPLORE response.

Cro - Magnon Poster

TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA
Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject: Social Studies - Cro Magnon PosterTASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?I was required to create a poster outlining the social organization , homes, food, and tools used by the Cro - Magnon people.INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are several reasons why I completed this assignment. First, this assignment helped me comprehend visually how the Cro - Magnons lived. Also, this assignment helped me to create a visual organizer which is one way of representing my ideas. Finally, this assignment helped me to prepare for the unit test, by serving as a study guide of Cro - Magnon daily life.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?- create visual organizer to show specific details/aspects of Cro - Magnon daily life (homes, social organization, tools, food)- each section of poster needed heading - followed rubric given to complete task (title, neatly done images/colouring)NEXT STEPS:I can now create a visual organizer showing imporant details for specific topics.I now have another study tool I can use to help me prepare for a test. I can now create rubrics/criteria for how to complete an assignment that I follow then use to complete an assignment successfully.
